Houston Restaurant Closures to Know This February

Houston’s restaurant scene doesn’t just expand. It recalibrates.

For every grand opening, there’s a goodbye post. A pit goes cold. A patio clears out. A familiar sign disappears overnight. This month’s closures stretch from the Washington Corridor to Midtown, reflecting a mix of rising costs, development shifts, and logistical hurdles.

Here’s who closed—and why it matters.

Fainmous BBQ | Washington Corridor

The East Tennessee–inspired barbecue joint that relocated to Sawyer Yards in 2019 has shut down its restaurant operations. After pandemic disruptions stalled surrounding development and construction limited visibility, expenses continued to climb. Facing mounting financial strain—including a reported $72,000 rent notice—the owners are pivoting to focus on catering and seeking support to relocate that operation.

The closure echoes a wider trend as barbecue spots across Texas confront higher food costs and fewer diners eating out.

The Union Kitchen | Garden Oaks

The Ella Boulevard location of The Union Kitchen has closed, following changes within the hospitality group. In its place comes Jax on the Tracks, a refreshed concept tied to the Jax Grill brand, offering refined comfort staples like wings, burgers, and pizzas.

In Houston, one concept exits—and another steps in quickly.

Succulent Fine Dining | Montrose

Less than a year after opening in Regent Square, Succulent Fine Dining has closed. Ownership cited ongoing issues with access, parking, and valet limitations as contributing factors. The restaurant called it a difficult decision, describing the space as a labor of love.

Montrose remains competitive, but even well-received concepts face logistical challenges that can outweigh momentum.

Wild | Montrose

Wild Concepts has shuttered its Westheimer location, which operated as a coffee shop, cocktail lounge, and THC dispensary bar. The expanded Montrose outpost offered a jungle-themed speakeasy vibe alongside hemp-infused options. Guests can still visit the Heights flagship or Grinder’s Coffee Bar near Rice Village.

This wasn’t the end of the brand—just a contraction.

Wooster’s Garden | Midtown

After more than a decade in business, Wooster’s Garden has closed. Ownership chose to lease the space to a new tenant, with another announcement expected soon.

In Houston’s hospitality world, turnover doesn’t signal silence.

It signals what’s next.
