Love go-kart racing but want to beat the Texas heat? You're in luck — international indoor karting chain K1 Speed has just opened its newest facility in The Woodlands, marking its sixth location in Texas.
“We’re very happy to open our sixth location in Texas and to join the communities of Conroe and The Woodlands,” said co-founder and CMO Susan Danglard. “We know residents are going to love this exciting new center. It’s been two years in the making, but it'll be worth the wait.”
Founded in 2003 in San Diego, K1 Speed introduced European-style electric go-kart racing to the U.S. The company uses high-performance Italian electric karts by OTL (Officine Tecno Luigi), which allow for emission-free indoor racing. Adult karts can reach speeds of up to 45 mph, while junior karts are limited to 20 mph — perfect for younger drivers or beginners.
The new Conroe/Woodlands location offers more than just racing. Guests can enjoy a full arcade, air hockey, and pool tables. The on-site Paddock Lounge serves classic bar fare and soft drinks, with beer and wine available for adults who are done racing. Private event rooms are also available for group rentals and celebrations.
K1 Speed recently teamed up with Sega to create a Sonic the Hedgehog-themed racing experience in celebration of the upcoming game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con. One of the company’s California tracks was transformed into a high-speed course inspired by the iconic video game.
The company’s expansion into The Woodlands reflects a rising interest in go-karting across the U.S. According to The Brainy Insights, the global karting market is projected to reach $174 billion by 2033. Its appeal lies in the accessibility, thrill, and now — the luxury of racing in air-conditioned comfort, especially welcome in hot climates like Houston.
The new K1 Speed facility is located at 15 S Trade Center Parkway in Conroe, near the intersection of I-45 and Highway 242.
