A historic Houston landmark is getting a beautiful new chapter! The Samuel H. Webber House, a stunning Queen Anne-style mansion located along Heights Boulevard, has undergone an extensive restoration and will soon reopen as The Victorian on Heights, an elegant event venue that also offers overnight accommodations.
Originally constructed between 1907 and 1908 by brickmason Samuel H. Webber, the property holds a special place in Houston's architectural history as the city's first brick Queen Anne-style residence. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the mansion has preserved much of its original charm, including its hardwood floors, grand staircases, intricate woodwork, doors, and historic architectural details.
The transformation is being led by Houston designer and custom furniture entrepreneur April Dardis, a Heights resident who had admired the property for years. Her vision was to restore the home's original elegance while incorporating modern touches that would make it a memorable destination for celebrations and special occasions.
The restoration blends historic craftsmanship with sophisticated design. Several bathrooms have been modernized, fireplaces have been restored, and the kitchen has been transformed into a unique speakeasy. Throughout the property, custom furnishings, antique pieces, luxurious fabrics, and hand-painted murals complement the mansion's timeless character.
Located near the intersection of Heights Boulevard and West 10½ Street, the venue includes the main mansion, a neighboring manor house, a carriage house, and beautifully landscaped gardens.
One of its most exciting features is the ability to accommodate overnight guests. Across the property, eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms can host up to 21 overnight guests, making it an ideal destination for weddings, private celebrations, and exclusive gatherings.
Guests can enjoy thoughtfully designed spaces, including bridal suites, gentlemen's quarters, bunk rooms, a honeymoon suite, and a dedicated glam room. The glam room features beauty stations and a custom rose trellis mural created by local artist Petra Frost.
Dardis has also incorporated vintage upholstered walls in select rooms, including the conservatory, dining room, and honeymoon suite, creating a warm and luxurious atmosphere while preserving the property's historic appeal.
Beyond its impressive design, the goal of The Victorian on Heights is to give Houstonians an opportunity to experience and appreciate one of the city's architectural treasures. By opening the mansion to the community, Dardis hopes to create a gathering place where guests can celebrate milestones, make memories, and experience a piece of Houston history.
The Victorian on Heights will celebrate its grand opening on October 28, 2026, with a festive Halloween-inspired event called Haunted on Heights. The celebration will feature approximately 52 creative collaborators and event professionals, themed spaces, five bartenders, three DJs, a string quartet, live entertainment, and interactive experiences throughout the property.
With its remarkable history, elegant restoration, and one-of-a-kind accommodations, The Victorian on Heights is set to become an exciting new destination for weddings, celebrations, and unforgettable events in one of Houston's most beloved neighborhoods.
