Camping season has officially kicked off in the Lone Star State, and five Texas parks have received new recognition as top must-visit destinations in the recently released 2025 Campspot Awards.
The award-winning parks were selected based on a thorough evaluation by the campground search platform Campspot, which identifies parks offering the most memorable experiences.
While none of the award-winning parks are near Houston, three of them are located in the Hill Country, and the other two are situated in North and West Texas.
“The Campspot Awards highlight parks that deliver exceptional guest experiences and embody the spirit of modern camping,” said Erin Stender, CMO of Campspot, in a press release. “This year’s winners showcase the diverse range of camping in North America, from peaceful retreats for disconnecting to high-energy destinations perfect for families. Every campground on this list provides a unique experience for campers and has earned its place as the best in the business."
Top Central Texas Parks
Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Fredericksburg, about 227 miles west of Houston, claimed the top spot as the No. 1 Campground in the U.S. for 2025. It also earned recognition as one of the top RV campgrounds.
This resort is packed with amenities to keep campers and families entertained, including an arcade, dog park, GaGa Ball pit, mini-golf, outdoor theater, and more. Additionally, it’s located near some of the Hill Country's most iconic wineries.
Campspot describes Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park as one of the best family-friendly parks in the heart of Texas Wine Country. “Whether you're looking for a family vacation or a place to stay while visiting the area’s beautiful wineries, they offer accommodations and amenities to fit your needs,” the park’s profile notes. "Take a dip in the pool, relax at Blue Bonnet Hall, or enjoy a friendly game of mini-golf!"
Hidden Valley RV Park in Von Ormy, a San Antonio suburb, received an award in the "Top Mid-Size Campgrounds" category. Located 300 miles southwest of Houston, the park features 76 available RV sites and offers a variety of amenities, including a general store, laundry facilities, showers, bathrooms, and a pavilion.
Campspot highlights the park’s peaceful country setting, stating, "Park your RV for a night, week, or month, and enjoy the art, culture, and history of San Antonio. Onsite, you can enjoy fishing in a private creek, walking trails, bird and wildlife viewing, and more."
Reviews rave about the park's tranquil atmosphere, ample fishing opportunities, and overall cleanliness. One reviewer praised the expansive dog park and the friendly staff. "The park is beautiful, with large, green spots, some by the creek. It’s only about a 20-minute drive to downtown San Antonio. The Wi-Fi was great, and the staff was welcoming, staying late to ensure we got settled in."
The third award-winning park in Central Texas is Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Kerrville, located 266 miles west of Houston. It was named one of the top campgrounds for glamping.
